#GIRL Libbi Steel
HMUA Emma Schnell
My name is Libbi, I am 21 years old and about to release three new alternative pop singles in the next month. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a musician and write and perform, however, at times, I also doubted myself due to the pressure society puts on us to comply with their norms.
I grew up in a very small country town three hours away from Melbourne. My parents were dairy farmers and the prospect of me achieving my dreams felt extremely distant. Growing up, I was told to go to University, find a man, get a job, buy a house and start a family. Not to be a singer.
I collaborated with 1and2Productions. They were looking for vocals for a European pop song called ‘Crayzee’. The song has nearly hit 500k YouTube views in a month. Now, I have been given the opportunity to write three new songs which express the hardship of growing up, being used and not fitting in with society. I hope people can relate to them and enjoy them as much as I do.
So, although my journey has just begun, it is safe to say I’m glad I made the decisions I did as I believe the only limitations in this world are the ones we place on ourselves.
